The Parks Agency was set up in 2002 by its directors, Stewart Harding and David Lambert, who have worked together for more than twenty-five years to save parks from development, protect them through the planning system and to improve them through various grant schemes and other initiatives.

Stewart and David are CABE Space Strategic Enablers and Heritage Lottery Fund Expert Advisers and Monitors and both were participants in the Government’s Urban Green Spaces Task Force.  Stewart is a facilitator to the Community Spaces Programme, funded by BIG Lottery and administered by Groundwork UK and the Civic Trust.   He is also a trustee of GreenSpace, the UK’s foremost champion of parks and open spaces and was made a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts for his work on parks and gardens. David is a a member of the expert panels of English Heritage, the Royal Parks, World Monuments Fund and the National Trust and also a trustee of the Gateway Gardens Trust which makes the experience of historic parks and gardens available to disabled and socially disadvantaged and excluded people.

Stewart and David have shown their commitment to parks, gardens and open spaces through their long-term involvement in voluntary, academic and professional activities, including:

  • Physical restoration projects
  • Fund-raising
  • Writing, lecturing and training
  • Administering grant schemes
  • Monitoring and advising
  • Evaluations, options appraisals and other research
  • Protecting parks through the planning system
  • A variety of publications, books and articles.
